Manitoba specifics

Operating out of Manitoba.

MPI provides basic commercial coverage for Manitoba-plated trucks, but anyone running cross-border or interprovincial freight needs extension coverage from a private carrier on top — including higher liability limits often required by shippers and US authorities. We have the appetite and the carriers to write the full stack.

— Brokers who speak your language

Manitoba's Punjabi & Hindi trucking community.

Galaxy was founded in part to serve Manitoba's South Asian owner-operators and small fleets properly. We explain certificates of insurance, MPI commercial registration, US filings and renewal terms in the language you prefer.

Our number is on the certificate when a dispatcher needs to confirm coverage.

Same-day certificates

Certificates the same business day.

When a dispatcher asks for proof of insurance before you can take a load, every minute counts. Our BrookPort office in Centreport turns around standard certificates of insurance the same business day, usually within the hour.

FAQ

Common questions about trucking and fleet insurance in Manitoba.

What is MPI Special Risk Extension (SRE) and which trucks need it?
SRE is MPI's commercial Autopac product for vehicles operated outside Manitoba, used for commercial purposes that fall outside basic Autopac, or insured for higher-value cargo and equipment exposures. Almost any Manitoba-plated truck doing inter-provincial or US trucking needs SRE — basic Autopac stops at the provincial border for most commercial use. We file SRE applications directly with MPI Special Risk and pair them with private trucking coverage where the gaps are.
What does motor truck cargo insurance cover?
Motor Truck Cargo (MTC) covers the freight you are hauling — for damage, theft, fire, collision and other named perils while the cargo is in your care, custody and control. Limits, deductibles and commodity exclusions vary widely. A policy that excludes electronics, refrigerated loads or specific high-theft commodities can leave a $200,000 load uninsured. We read the policy wording before binding, not after a claim.
Do owner-operators in Manitoba need different coverage than fleet companies?
Yes. An owner-operator running under a carrier's authority is often covered for primary liability under the carrier's policy but still needs their own physical damage on the tractor, occupational accident or workers compensation, bobtail/non-trucking liability, and sometimes cargo. A standalone fleet operating under its own authority needs the full stack — primary liability, cargo, physical damage, GL, employee benefits. We package both, but they are different conversations.
How does trucking insurance work for long-haul into the US from Manitoba?
US runs require carriers that have a US filing capability — typically MCS-90 endorsements and the right state filings (PUC/DOT), along with primary liability limits that meet FMCSA minimums ($750,000 for general freight, $1 million for hazmat, often higher in practice). MPI SRE handles the Manitoba side; we layer private trucking coverage to satisfy the US federal and state requirements. We confirm the filing chain before the first load crosses the border.
What is the radius declaration and why does it matter on a trucking policy?
The radius is the operating territory you declare to the carrier — local (within 50 miles), short-haul (250 miles), long-haul (over 250 miles), or trans-border. Premium is rated to that radius. If you declare local but a driver runs to Calgary and crashes, the carrier can deny or reduce the claim for misrepresented exposure. We re-confirm the radius at every renewal because dispatch patterns drift.
Can I bundle my trucking insurance with my commercial property, CGL and group benefits?
Yes. Galaxy is appointed with the major Canadian commercial and trucking carriers, so we can package the trucking program with property on the yard, CGL for the office side, business auto for the service vehicles, cyber, and group benefits — under one brokerage relationship. One renewal date, one broker who knows your dispatch profile, and a single point of contact when a claim comes in.
How fast can Galaxy issue a certificate of insurance for a load?
Same business day, usually within the hour, from our BrookPort office in Centreport. Dispatchers asking for proof of insurance before a load releases is the most common time-sensitive request in trucking, and our commercial team is set up for it. Send the certificate request to the office handling your file and we turn it around.
